What would a trip to Isle Royale be without a change in itinerary. This was my fourth trip to the island and the fourth time I have changed it mid trip. I was originally going to go from Rock Harbor to Windigo down the Greenstone with a two day stop off at Chippewa Harbor. I changed this about a month before I left, so I went into and came out of Rock Harbor. As I planned on taking the seaplane, this change was not that big of one as far as logistics goes. When I got to the island, what I ended up doing was nothing like I planned. I had originally planned on spending 8 nights on the island, but on the fifth decided to cut it short one night for reasons I'll go into later on. I also did not stay at Todd Harbor, Hatchet Lake, and Lane Cove like I planned and changed my length of stay at Chippewa and McCargo. So my final itinerary ended up being Moskey Basin -> Chippewa Harbor -> McCargo Cove (2 nights) -> West Chickenbone -> Daisy Farm -> Rock Harbor. As for equipment, I had planned on getting a lighter tent, but did not. However, I did bring along my new digital SLR (a Canon Digital Rebel) and two lenses (a Canon 17-40 L and a Sigma 70-300 APO). Overall, the shots were much better quality than the APS camera I had taken previously (but my technique still has a long way to go). I was able to shoot a lot more pictures (close to 350), of which only some of the best will be posted here. All of them have been touched up in photoshop and resized down from the original 6 megapixel pictures. Overall, I hiked an estimated 48 miles with my pack on, about 48 miles with it off, and ended up kayaking about 5 miles around Scoville Point. The weather ranged from high of 79 degrees to a low of 36 for two consecutive nights. It rained during two nights, once heavily with thunderstorms and once mildly. Also on the way back home, I had enough time to to a 10 mile day hike around the Chapel loop at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
